Maggie Lee Obituary

Maggie Evelyn Lee was born on February 5, 1942, in Georgetown, South Carolina, to Addie Morant Lee and Bossie Lee Sr. From the very beginning, she radiated strength, grace, and a fierce sense of purpose that would guide the remarkable life she lived. Affectionately known as Grandma Maggie, she was raised in the close-knit community of Plantersville, where she built the deep roots of faith, family, and love that became the foundation of her life. She was a proud graduate of Choppee High School, Class of 1960, and soon after made New Haven, Connecticut, her longtime home. Maggie worked for many years as a dedicated cook at West Rock Healthcare, where she was known not only for her hard work but also for the warmth and love she poured into every meal. Her gifts extended beyond her career- she was a devoted member of Pitts Chapel church for many years being a faithful member of the Mother Board & Senior choir. Maggie had many passions: cooking Sunday dinners, singing gospel, reading her Bible, shopping, and surrounding herself with children. She lived life with intention and soul. A woman of faith, resilience, and unshakable dignity, Maggie carried herself like the queen she was. Her legacy is not only in her accomplishments but in the countless lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. Though she has departed this earth, her spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. Her life was a testimony of God's grace, and her legacy will echo through generations. She was preceded in death by her mother, Addie Morant Lee; her father, Bossie Lee Sr.; her daughter, Linda Lee; her son, Ray Lamar Lee; brothers, Wayman Lee (Mae Donia Lee), and Bossie Lee Jr (Fannie Lee).; and sisters, Zena Mae Lee, Hattie L. Bryant (Thomas Bryant), and Esther Gilliard. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters: Karen Lee-Reid (Lindon Reid Sr.), Pamela Lee-Barclay (Martin Barclay), Tywanna Lee, Andrea Lee, Taricka Lee, and Amari Lee; grandchildren, Shenik'a Lee, Melisa Reid, Lindon Reid Jr. (Judith Robinson-Reid), Shemar Reid, Tianne Barclay, Ashli-Cole Barclay, and Martin Barclay Jr.; great-grandchildren, Marquis Reid Jr, Ma'Khi Brown, and Chayse Reid; sisters, Marylou Vernon (Benjamin Vernon) and Cynthia Moore (Frank Moore); along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She also leaves behind a very special lifelong friend, Ms. Barbara Johnson, who spent countless hours by her side, feeding her, praying with her, and faithfully walking with her in love and friendship until the end.
