Margaret Colangelo Obituary
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother
Margaret McGill Colangelo died peacefully while enfolded in the love of her family at the Village at East Farms, Waterbury on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the age of 85. Margaret is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Colangelo and four of her seven children: Richard Colangelo, Maribeth (Joe) Wojenski, Julie (Mike) Bunce, Sharon (Dave) Fortier, her twelve grandchildren, and her six great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her two sons Bob Colangelo and Michael Colangelo, one daughter Karen Colangelo and one grandson Michael Anthony Colangelo as well as her parents, her brother Pat McGill and two sisters Sheila Sheades and Maureen Feeney.
Margaret was born on August 17, 1939, in Waterbury CT to Patrick and Margaret (Culbert) McGill. She grew up in Waterbury and attended St. Thomas School, Catholic High School and graduated from Wilby High School. She spent much of her childhood attending the Girls Club in Waterbury, where she learned life skills like cooking and sewing, and was named Little Miss Waterbury. Margaret and Robert moved to Prospect in 1964 and resided there for 54 years before moving into the Village at East Farms, Assisted Living Community.
Margaret was an active mother and volunteered at the local schools and the PTA where she took a turn to be President. She was also an active communicant at St. Anthony Church in Prospect, where she taught Religious Education, held Confirmation classes in her home, was a Eucharistic Minister, and for several years, made homemade soup on Monday nights for Bingo.
Margaret was employed at Colonial Bank/Bank of Boston for over 20 years, holding various part time and full-time positions. Her lifelong dream was to get a college degree, and she did just that – graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, Cum Laude, from Post University in 1989.
Her children and grandchildren remember her as a kind and loving mother/grandmother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams. She loved them with all her heart and was happiest when her family was all together. She did it all – from cooking fabulous meals, making homemade Halloween costumes, decorating the house for every occasion, taking care of all the grandchildren, and making everyone feel special and loved.
