Marian Gagnon Obituary
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we share the news of losing our dear mother, Marian Helen Thibeault Gagnon. On December 29, 2024 she peacefully re-joined her late husband, Lucien Moise Gagnon, where they now remain together for eternal life. Marian was the beloved wife to Lucien for 61 years prior to his passing in 2018. Marian began her life a strong fighter, born as a premature infant at her rural NH home, in a time when the doctor's advice to the family was to "put her in a cold room and I'll pick her up in the morning". Her wise parents had different plans for her and nursed her back to a thriving healthy child where she happily grew up with her 7 other siblings in the small town of Lincoln, NH. In high school, Marian worked at Clark's Trading Post, which remains a popular tourist attraction in the White Mountains of Lincoln, New Hampshire. She moved to Hartford, CT at age 18, in January of 1953, and began working as a secretary at Pratt & Whitney. During a visit to her hometown in NH, she met her future husband, Lucien, who was visiting from Canada with a family friend. This chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong commitment to each other. They married in 1956 at St. Peter's Church in Hartford and made their first home in East Windsor, CT. They later moved to Thompsonville, where they started their family, and finally settled in Enfield, CT in 1963 where they purchased their lifelong home on Belle Avenue, and raised their 5 children. They were faithful members of St. Martha's Church in Enfield, and made lasting friendships there. Even in her senior years, Marian showed us her deep-rooted toughness and resilience during her many battles with chronic illness, all fought with a positive attitude and enduring sense of humor, right to the very end. Her wish was to remain home, where she took her last breath, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, and lifetime memories. Marian was the daughter of the late George Joseph Thibeault and Belzimere Mary Fillion Thibeault of Lincoln, NH. She is survived by her 5 children: Roger Gagnon of Enfield, CT; Lena Gagnon of Enfield, CT; Denise and spouse Bill Edwards of Las Vegas, NV; Diana and spouse James Lagana of Longs, SC; Lisa and spouse Eric Johnson of Glastonbury, CT. She had a pre-deceased grandson: Jeremy Fuller, of Enfield, CT and 7 other surviving grandchildren: Renee Barbieri and spouse Mark of Gales Ferry, CT; Danielle Cartelli of Las Vegas, NV; Andrew Lagana and spouse Emma of Stafford Springs, CT; Jennifer Fuller of Enfield, CT; Benjamin Johnson and Xander Johnson of Glastonbury, CT,, William Edwards and spouse Kim of Las Vegas, NV. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren: Mark and Thomas Barbieri in CT, Andrew Lugris, Sophia Edwards, Grace Edwards, and Hunter Edwards all in NV. Marian was also pre-deceased by 3 of her siblings: Henry Thibeault and Paul Thibeault of Lincoln, NH, and Armand Thibeault of Plymouth, NH. She is survived by 4 other siblings: Rita Landry of Tilton, NH; Jeannine Smith of Concord, NH; Donald and wife Beatrice Thibeault of Center Harbor, NH; and Richard Thibeault of Colorado Springs, CO. Marian also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family across the US and Canada. Marian was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was very social and enjoyed all family gatherings. Upcoming events served as a strong motivation for her to recover so she could travel, or welcome visitors during her bouts of illness flare-ups. She loved making puzzles, picture painting, and getting together with her card group friends. She had a warm smile, a big heart, and a love for a good laugh-something we often witnessed when she was surrounded by those she loved, and especially frequent during her winter visits to Las Vegas, thanks in part to her son-in-law Bill, who loved to joke with her regularly. Even during difficult times, she tried to have a positive attitude, often stating, "things could always be worse." Marian lived 90 amazing years and leaves a legacy of love and beautiful memories with everyone she touched. She will always stay with us, in our hearts. We would like to extend special thanks to all of her devoted caregivers, especially to Helen, Roberta, Donna, Angela, and the hospice staff who provided comfort to her during the sunset stage of her life. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on May 8, 2025, during calling hours from 4:30-6:30 pm, at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 42 Shaker Rd, Enfield, CT. A funeral service will be held on May 9, 2025, at 11AM, at St. Martha Church, 214 Brainard Rd, with burial to immediately follow at New Hazardville Cemetery, 7 North St, Enfield, CT 06082.
