Mario Sarlo Obituary

Waterbury, CT Mario Anthony Sarlo "Beloved husband, father, grandfather & brother" Mario A. Sarlo, 88, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Waterbury Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Pagano) Sarlo. Mario was born in Waterbury on October 10, 1936, a son of the late Pasquale and Vincenza (Manzione) Sarlo. He was a graduate of Crosby High School, attended Post Business School and served as a proud member of the U.S. Army. For over 30 years, Mario worked as an account manager servicing grocery stores and supermarkets across southern New England and New York, most notably representing the brands Durkee and McCormick spices. He was active in city politics with Mayor Bergin in the 1960s, elected to the Board of Selectmen, served as Chairman of the Inland, Wetlands and Watercourse Commission in the 2000s, and most recently served in Voter Admissions. Mario was an avid New York Yankee fan and coached boys' baseball when his children and nephews were young. Besides his wife, Dorothy of 61 years, he leaves three children, Gary Padula and his wife, Lisa of Watertown, Mark A. Sarlo and his wife Christine of Watertown, and Paul M. Sarlo and his wife Aurescela Castroverde of Edgewater, NJ; three grandchildren, Matthew Padula and his wife, Samantha Wright of Waterbury, Carissa Sarlo and her husband, Jonathan Carlo of Southington, and Andrew Padula of Watertown; a great grandson, Benjamin Padula; a brother, John A. Sarlo of Waterbury; 16 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a grand-dog, Teddy Bear. He was predeceased by four brothers, Anthony Sarlo, Joseph Sarlo, Ernest Mark Montavon and Thomas Montavon. Arrangements: Mario's funeral will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to St. Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Drive Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
