Mark Rousseau Obituary

Mark Edward Rousseau, 68, of Wallingford, husband of Diane Cwirka for 36 years, passed away March 31, 2025 at Hartford Hospital after a long hospitalization. Mark was born in Waterbury on October 11, 1956. Mark earned his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from University of New Haven. It was in Graduate School at the University of New Haven where he met his wife, a nurse who took care of him to the very end of his life. He then went on to the University of Massachusetts where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in Tax Law. Here he wrote a book and received awards regarding his academic accomplishments. Mark loved to play his guitar. He was always singing and learning new songs. He was also part of a liturgical group for many years. Mark also loved to go to Nantucket where he loved the beach and swimming in the ocean. He and his wife went to the island for almost 25 years, unselfishly inviting friends and family to share this vacation time. He also loved to go on cruises to the Caribbean with Diane. Mark was also so proud of the house he built in Wallingford. He actually helped the architect to design the home of dreams for himself and his wife. He called it 'the castle on the hill'. Here he loved to have parties for friends who often never wanted to go home when things were finished. He proudly learned how to drive his John Deere mower and work his snowblower to take care of his home. Mark also taught himself to cook some very delicious meals, which his wife always told him were 'restaurant quality' for sure. He also made it a daily routine to cook breakfast at home. Mark was the kind of guy who never wanted to be in the spotlight. He was overly generous to a fault to everyone, and always liked to be the giver and not the receiver of anything. His wife will always remember that 'love at first sight feeling' when they first met. That love will go on forever in her heart. Their marriage was always full of hugs and kisses, handholding and just great quiet time together. Together, they shared a life that was filled with joy, music and travel. In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by his brother, Alan Rousseau. He is also survived by his loving sister-in-law Sharon Cwirka and his loving brother-in-law Stanley (Skeeter) Cwirka. He is also surived by his brother's wife Sharon and their children Kylie and Lauren. There are many cousins as well. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Rousseau, his mother, Rita Sciortino, his brother, Robert Rousseau and his uncle, Lawrence Rousseau. Mark's wife will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 4 pm until 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford.
