Martin Joseph Van Allen

Martin Joseph Van Allen, 81 Sunrise: February 18, 1944 Sunset: April 19, 2025 Martin Joseph Van Allen passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, at West Hartford Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, to the late Robert Van Allen and Dorothy (Andrews) Conover. Martin attended Hartford Public Schools and went on to become a skilled carpenter. He was also employed for many years by the Hartford Public School system. Martin was a loving brother, uncle, godfather, and friend - known for his generous spirit and warm heart. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Sonny Barkley, Robert, Frederick, James, Raymond, and John Van Allen. Martin will be lovingly remembered by his brother Richard Van Allen; sister Julia Robinson; and Dawn Rozie Hightower, Kathleen Washington, and Jonna Eileen Albert, who were more like sisters than cousins, sharing a deep lifelong bond with him. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces Tracy Van Allen, Kathryn Van Allen, and Jonna Van Allen-Owens (Tyrane); goddaughter Neecy Little; and lifelong friends Emma Britt-Daye and Lamont Britt. He is also survived by a host of other cherished family members and friends... Martin loved family gatherings, watching horror movies, listening to music, and scratching lottery tickets. A proud New York Giants fan, he also enjoyed a cigarette every now and then. Martin attended church on Sundays and found comfort in his spiritual routine. He especially enjoyed home-cooked meals and the warmth of being surrounded by family. Known for his open-door policy and welcoming nature, he was always ready to help anyone in need. Fiercely protective of his loved ones, his memory will live on ... A memorial service will be held on May 10, 2025, from 12-2p.m. at Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
