Mary Harris Obituary

Mary Roslyn Harris, age 63, of New Haven, CT, transitioned peacefully on September 5, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Mary was born on December 29, 1961, to the late Mary Senior Harris of New Haven, CT, and the late Joseph Harris of Greenville, NC. Mary attended Wilbur Cross High School and graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1986 with her Bachelor of Nursing degree. She then obtained a Masters of Science in Nursing in 2006, and finally advanced to a Psychiatric/Mental Health Advanced Practitioner in 2022 with a certification from University of St. Joseph. Mary Harris lived a life full of love and dedication. Mary started her career at Yale- New Haven Hospital in the mailroom, before finding her calling as a nurse. After serving for many years as a Trauma Nurse on 6-4, and casual nurse at CMHC, she began working at Rushford, helping those struggling with addiction. Mary also shared her wisdom as a clinical instructor, nurturing the next generation of nurses, leaving a legacy of care and excellence. Once she completed her Psych APRN certification, she found a welcoming space at Griffin outpatient psych. Although her time there was brief, she left a lasting impression on the staff and clients. While Mary wasn't working, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children Jocelyn and Corey, and grandchildren Skylar, Eryc, and Imani. Mary loved to travel, especially if there was food or a good jazz band involved. She frequented Ernie's Pizza, where she was affectionately greeted with her own booth. Mary also found pleasure in crocheting, reading, cooking, gardening, hosting parties, shopping at Target, and watching nostalgic TV shows. She will be remembered for her infectious smile that lit up a room, as well as her heartwarming personality, kindness, and compassion for others. Her legacy continues through her family, and she will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her sisters, Denise, Annette (Torre), Jeanette, Gina, Lucinda, Ruth, and Brenda; and brothers, Joe, Earl, Ray, Ricky, and Anthony; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Mary is predeceased by her mother, Mary Harris; father, Joseph Harris; older brother, Rodney Harris, Sr.; and younger sister, Brenda Harris.
