Maureen Rea Obituary

Maureen (Quinn) Rea 86 of Branford passed away March 8, 2025 with her family by her side. She was born September 17, 1938 in New Haven to Joseph and Margaret (Kennedy) Quinn, Maureen is survived by her three devoted children; Michelle DeAngelo (John) of East Haven, Neil Rea Jr. of East Haven and Christopher Rea (Kelly) of East Haven along with her grandchildren she adored; Lindsay DeAngelo (Kevin Proffit), Megan Rea (Ron Borrego), Kelly Petersen (Daniel) and Christopher Rea Jr. Maureen is also survived by her great grandchildren, Leo Proffit, Luke Proffit andd Ellie Petersen, a nephew, Joseph Quinn (Karen) and a great nephew, Thomas Quinn. Maureen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Neil Rea (1993), grandson, Michael "Diesel" DeAngelo (2016), brother, Thomas Quinn (2018) and a sister-in-law, Margaret Quinn (2021). Maureen was dedicated to her work with the City of New Haven. She truly cherished her time as a crossing guard, taking immense pride in keeping the children safe. Her later years in the cafeteria department were equally fulfilling; she loved the interaction with the staff and students, always ready with a kind word and a smile. Retirement didn't slow her down; she continued to be a vibrant member of the Branford community, known for her beautiful flower gardens, holiday decorations, and of course, her beloved pug, Jackson. Jackson and mom were quite the pair, bringing joy to everyone who knew them. They were a regular sight around the Giamo Building, always ready for a chat and a treat. Beyond her local connections, mom also enjoyed simple pleasures like shopping trips to the Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Boscov's. Most importantly, she was a loving, kind, and fiercely independent woman with a sharp wit. She had a knack for storytelling – some might call it gossip – and always knew how to make people laugh. We will all miss her immensely. Family will receive friends on Thursday March 13, 2025 from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession will then leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John Bosco Parish at the Church of St. Mary, 731 Main Street, Branford CT with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven. Our heartfelt condolences on Maureen's passing.  She was was quite a character! For me, she became a friend instead of a "random rehab roommate." My time in rehab was like living with a celebrity - she knew everyone & she always spoke her mind. She would make sure you ate your meals but ignore her own, except for her double ice cream, which she insisted on sharing. But best was when she "helped" me with speech therapy. I couldn't talk & she couldn't hear! We were a daily spectacle, with me yelling lists of practice words across the room until she judged them correct. We always ended with "YOU!  ME!!  US!!!" And a round of applause. Thanks to Maureen what was a stressful time became memorable in some good ways, & we're grateful to have crossed paths.
