Maureen Welch Obituary

Maureen A. Welch, 84, of Suffield, beloved wife of the late James R. Welch, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 20, 2025, with family by her side. Born on October 14, 1940, in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late E. Peter and Mary (McDevitt) Leddy. Maureen graduated from Nazareth College with a bachelor's degree in education and later became a speech pathologist in New York City. It was there she began dating Jim, and together they settled in Suffield, where they built a beautiful life and successful business. Maureen was a member of Sacred Heart Church and many organizations that supported the community. Above all, Maureen was a devoted mother and nana who cherished spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She delighted in hosting parties and cherished the yearly traditions that brought friends and family together. She also had a passion for travel and loved cruising to new destinations, tending to her garden, and creating beautiful memories with those she loved. Maureen is survived by a son, Michael J. Welch and his wife, Susan of Suffield, CT; a daughter, Kathleen W. Orejuela and her husband, Manuel, of Brookfield, WI; two grandsons, James Orejuela and Liam Welch; and three granddaughters, Nicole Orejuela, Sara Welch and Alexandra Orejuela. She also leaves a cousin, Jane Elrod, who was like a sister to her and many dear lifelong friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 28, from 5-7 p.m. at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St., Suffield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Road, Suffield, CT. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield. Rest in Peace

Dorothy Stachowicz-Haviland

March 25, 2025

Dear Kate and Mike,
I am so very sorry to hear of your mom´s passing. Our friendship goes back to the early 1970s when we were all young and invincible. Maureen was the consummate hostess, ready to entertain at the drop of a hat! Our girlfriend trips, from Alaska to Bermuda and places in between were always a great adventure! Memories are one of the great treasures of life, and I am thankful for the memories I have built with Moe over the years.
Sending my love to you and your families,
Dorothy Stachowicz Haviland
