Milton Tyson Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend. Elder Deacon Milton Tyson, Sr. took his wings after a long-enriched life full of love, laughter, and family on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Milton, affectionately known as "T Tight" and "Poppa T" was born on June 4, 1944, to the late Luther Tyson and Zelma (Tyson) Smith. Milton attended Weaver High School prior to enlisting in the Army. Milton was in the Special Forces where he served within the Adjutant General's Corps. Regiment. Milton had vast skills that afforded him an opportunity to work in Construction and as a Gas Distributor prior to following his dream of opening, Milt's Deli, where he was a renowned chef, and meat connoisseur. After many years of fulfilling his dream, Milton changed careers and became a Correctional Officer and then Supervisor with the State of Connecticut, Department of Corrections for over two decades. After retirement, Milton relocated to Ocala, Florida where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and yes, more cooking. Milton had a deep and personal relationship with the Lord and Savior, who he loved with all his heart. Milton was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Hartford, now the First Cathedral in Bloomfield for over thirty years where he served as a Deacon and Benevolence Ministry. While living in Florida, Milton joined Greater New Bethel and was elevated to an Elder where he served in this capacity for the past thirteen years. Milton leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mamie Tyson, of fifty-eight years; three children: Carmela Tyson Thomas (Keith Thomas) of Richmond, Va., Milton, Jr. of Hamilton, Al., and Vernette Tyson of Glastonbury, CT. Two brothers, Wayne Smith, and Brian Smith and one sister, Kimberly Blocker.
