Nicholas Nigro Obituary
Nicholas Anthony Nigro, Jr., 76, of Stafford Springs, formerly of East Granby and Bloomfield, beloved husband of Penny-Lynn (Rottino) Nigro for 53 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Hartford Hospital.
Born in Hartford on May 5, 1949, he was the son of the late Nicholas Anthony Nigro, Sr. and Mary L. (Cicerchia) Nigro. Raised in Bloomfield, he attended Bloomfield High School before joining his father in the family business at just 15 years old. It was there that Nicholas began learning the trades that would shape his life-plumbing, well drilling, and septic services. Working alongside his father at Capital Well Drilling and Acme Pump Company in Bloomfield, he gained not just skills, but a deep entrepreneurial spirit passed down through generations.
In 1989, Nicholas established Advance Septic Tank Service, which he operated for over 25 years. A licensed subsurface sewer installer, he was known throughout the Hartford area for his expertise, strong work ethic, and loyal client relationships. He took pride in working with his hands and found fulfillment in serving his community.
Nicholas was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. He also had a deep appreciation for nature and found peace in the outdoors. He took joy in tending to his yard and could often be found observing the animals that visited-especially the birds, which brought him great comfort and happiness.
In addition to his wife, Penny, he leaves behind three children: Nicholas Anthony Nigro, III and his wife Heidi of West Simsbury, Timothy Allen Nigro and his wife Joanne Haddad of Miller Place, NY, and Jessica Burroughs and her husband Robert of New Haven. He is also survived by two sisters, Pamela M. Champagne and her husband John Trainor of Stafford Springs, and Marilyn A. Barnes of West Suffield; two brothers, Victor Nigro and his wife Patricia of Suffield, and Thomas A. Nigro and his wife Judith of East Granby.
He was the proud grandfather of Tai-Anthony Nigro of Stafford Springs, his step brother Robert Burroughs IV of New Haven, Matthew, Emily, Katherine, and Nicholas Anthony Nigro, IV of West Simsbury, and Giselle and Reed Nigro of Miller Place, NY. Nicholas also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by two siblings, Anthony John Nigro and Rose Marie Spradley.
