Peter J. Golas

Peter J. Golas, 86, husband of Shirley (Gagne) Golas, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at Midstate Medical Center of natural causes. Born in Meriden, CT, on August 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Walter and Lottie (Patsy) Golas. Peter was a lifelong resident of Meriden. Peter served honorably in the U.S. Army, where he earned his diploma. He then began his career as a machinist for the Barnes Group in Windsor, CT, retiring in 2000 at the age of 62. He was a devoted parishioner of Holy Angels Church in South Meriden. In addition to his wife, Shirley, Peter is survived by his daughters, Darlene Schmidt and her husband Timothy of Wallingford, CT, and Karen Vitale and her husband Richard of Vail, Arizona; and his son, Peter Golas Jr. of Meriden, CT. He also leaves behind his wonderful grandchildren: Britian Vitale and Nicholas Szestakow of Higganum, CT; Richard and Sophia Vitale of Waterford, CT; Nicholas and Jade Vitale of Vail, Arizona; Lindsay Viarengo and her husband Frank of Wallingford, CT; and Rachel Galarza and her husband Kevin of Meriden, CT. Peter was a proud great-grandfather to Teagan Viarengo, Gennaro and Ophelia Vitale, and Cole and Nicholas Szestakow. He is also survived by his brother, David Golas, and his wife Judy of Mount Vernon, Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews who will all remember him fondly. He was predeceased by his brothers Leonard and Edward Golas and his sister Maryanne Golas. The family honored Peter with a service and military honors, privately among themselves and under the direction of The John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home.
