Peter Oborski Obituary

Obituary of Peter Oborski, Jr. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Oborski, who flew to his angels on October 2, 2025. He is forever cherished by his wife of 46 years, Carol (Giampa) Oborski, and daughters Shauna MacDonald and Lauren Backus (son-in-law Cody Backus) whom he would do anything for - at any hour of any day. Pete lived for his ladies. They were his world and he was theirs. His love for them was limitless, and his presence in their lives was a constant source of comfort and strength. Pete was especially devoted to his grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. Michela, Eliana, Lyla, and Bennett brought him endless joy and let his inner child shine. Pete chased and accomplished his boyhood dreams of being a commercial pilot. He started flying at the young age of 16 with single-engine Cessnas at Brainard Airport. When he completed college, he entered the USAFR through Westover Air Force Base, MA. He completed Officer Training School (OTS) in Texas and Undergraduate Pilot Training in Oklahoma where he trained on T-37s and supersonic T-38s. He also trained on C130s and the C5-Galaxy. He retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserve and simultaneously got hired by American Airlines. Amongst the aircraft he flew were the 7s7, AirBus A300, MD-80 and the 737-800. He flew out of LaGuardia and JFKennedy Airports where he discovered his love for the Caribbean waters and islands. During his years at AA, he served the pilots of New York as co-chair and eventually chairperson of the New York domicile at a very important and stressful time. He retired after 34 years from AA as a Captain. He lived life like how he flew; full throttle. He had a voice that lit up every backyard karaoke night and an unmatched love for Kenny Chesney music. His laugh was infectious and brought warmth to everyone that was lucky enough to hear it. He was the life of the party, a proud "Wild Hog" motorcycle rider with his brother and nephew. Pete had a free spirit and he found peace on the open road. He found joy within the simple things: a cold beer with his family, a good laugh and a song sung loudly straight from his soul. Pete is survived by his loving sisters Helen, Kathy, Mary and Trisha, and his only brother Steven. He also leaves behind cherished sisters-in-law Janice and Lori, along with many beloved family members and friends. Pete had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard and loved. His presence brought warmth and laughter that can never be replaced. Pete's passing leaves an unfillable void in our family; one that will be felt every day. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 12:00 pm at the First Church of Christ, 2183 Main St, Glastonbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
