Richard Concelmo Obituary
Richard Concelmo, 89 of Hamden, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 9, 2025. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Josephine (Stora) Concelmo and was predeceased by his sister, Bernadette (Concelmo) Wolkovitz.
Richard shared more than 68 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Beverly (Fappiano) Concelmo. Together, they built a loving family that was always at the center of his life. He is survived by his children, Richard Concelmo and Diana Morton, and Robyn (Concelmo) and William Sweet. He was a proud grandfather to William and Mandy Sweet of Cheshire, Britany (Sweet) and Benjamin Wyskiel of Orange, Rose Morton of Naugatuck and was blessed with seven great grandchildren. Richard was also proudly known as "Uncle" to his seven nieces and nephews.
Richard attended Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven and began his collegiate studies at the University of Connecticut before graduating from the University of New Haven. He went on to enjoy a successful career as an electrical engineer with Time Inc. and American Zella, where he was offered the unique opportunity to travel the world. During Richard's retirement years, he enjoyed monthly lunches with high school friends and driving for Hy's Limousine.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was deeply involved in his community. He served as a coach and parent with Hamden Fathers Baseball and Football and was a long-time member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, where he enjoyed singing in the choir with his friends. Richard cherished time with friends and family, whether skiing, playing tennis, traveling or watching his grandchildren play sports. He especially enjoyed an annual trip to Hilton Head Island, SC, a place that brought him great peace and joy.
Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and uncle, as well as a man whose kindness, warmth, and sense of family touched all who knew him. He carried himself with quiet strength, always ready to share guidance, encouragement, or a story that would bring a smile. His presence was steady and a source of comfort to family and friends alike.
A service honoring Richard's life will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Hamden, CT on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 11:00AM. Repast will be private.
