Richard Hazen Obituary

WINSTED - Richard H. Hazen, son of the late Ralph and Mary (Tracey) Hazen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025, after a brief illness. Born September 19, 1943, in Manchester. Richard served in the U.S. Army. He was a skilled CDL driver, diesel mechanic and businessman. He built and operated the Hazen Bus Company from the ground up for several years. Richard enjoyed watching old country westerns, the weather channel, spending days on the lake and visiting with friends, and most of all taking pride in his kids' accomplishments. Over the years of business and personally, he acquired many friends and contacts too numerous to count. He will be missed. Richard leaves his son, Richard J. Hazen and fiancé Ashley Greenbaum and granddaughter Ashlyn Hazen; daughter Tracey Hazen and her fiancé, John Mahoney; sisters Marcia Woulfe and Catherine Taft (Fred); brothers Robert (Karen) and Raymond (Debra). Richard also leaves his former wife, Ines Hazen, his sister-in-law, Valerie Hazen and many nieces and nephews. Richard was pre-deceased by his oldest brother, Ralph Hazen. Richard's siblings are extremely appreciative of Tracey and Rick, who devoted time and attention to ensure his safety and care, and also wish to recognize Cinde Soldan, who befriended Richard and provided loving care. Friends may call on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 10 AM – 11:30AM. There will be a funeral service at 11:30AM. Burial will be private at New Willimantic Cemetery, Willimantic. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Richard, please visit our Tree Store.
