Richard Johns Obituary

Richard T. Johns, 77, of Manchester, entered into eternal rest peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Richard was born on October 29, 1947, in Detroit Michigan, to the late Peter and Josephine (Barkett) Johns. Richard, better known as Dick by all, graduated from De La Salle High School and was a proud Navy veteran. He was a National Accounts Manager for RGIS Inventory Specialists, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 2007. Richard met and married the love of his life, Judy (Allam), on February 14, 1969, and together they shared 56 beautiful years of marriage. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, along with the company of his family and good friends. Dick was a devoted father who gave generously of his time and heart. He volunteered as a youth recreation coach when his children were young, served as co-president of the PTA, and proudly represented the Exchange Club of Manchester. A passionate supporter from the sidelines, he rarely missed a game-whether for his kids or, later, his grandkids-and was never shy about letting the referees, umpires, or opposing coaches know exactly how he felt. His booming voice and "colorful commentary" are fondly remembered by many and will remain part of his legacy. Most importantly, Dick was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren, often speaking about them with such sincere pride and enthusiasm that we sometimes had to gently tell him to stop-not that he ever did. He also shared a remarkable talent for capturing a room's attention with his endless supply of stories-much to Judy's chagrin. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his children: Sharon and Mark Sacchi of Manchester; Kimberley and Francisco Palma of Vernon; Darlene and Michael Wentworth of Manchester; Richard and Jennifer Johns of Manchester; and Jason and Veronica Johns of North Branford; his siblings: David and Ida Johns, Karen Johns (sister-in-law), Joan and William Lusk, and Christopher and Lia Johns; his 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister- and brothers-in-law: Regina Tanoury, Arlene Abdella, Barbara VanKehrberg, Robert and Teri Allam, and Richard and Nancy Allam, along with many loved nieces and nephews. Dick is also survived by a wide circle of close friends who became like family to him-bonds he cherished deeply and nurtured throughout his life. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brother, Peter Johns. Relatives and friends are invited to the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. in Manchester, on Friday, September 12, for calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. A funeral home service with military honors will take place at 6 p.m. The burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held following the services at Georgina's Restaurant, 275 Boston Turnpike, Bolton beginning at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. CLICK TO VIEW LIVESTREAM FUNERAL SERVICE
