Louisa "Rita" Palmieri, a lifelong resident of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. She celebrated her 100th birthday the day before her death. Rita was the daughter of the late Luigi and Leonilda (Daucci) Palmieri. She was the youngest of nine children and was predeceased by her eight older siblings: Teresa Cassari, Florence Palmieri, Bertha Iovene, William Palmieri Sr., Dr. Anthony Palmieri, Joseph Palmieri, Frank Palmieri, and Emma Caggiano. Rita was also predeceased by her nephews William L. Palmieri Jr. and Louis W. Palmieri. Rita is survived by nephew Frank (Jean) Palmieri of Virginia and nieces Linda (Ali) Amrani of Hamden and Margaret Palmieri of Branford as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews including William L. (Suzanne) Palmieri III of North Branford and daughters Rosemary, Teresa and Grace Louise, Amanda Palmieri Linski of Weldon Spring, MO and her son, Charles, Melissa (Michael) Stone of Hamden and daughters Victoria and Madeline, William S. Palmieri of Bethany and daughter McKinley and son Barrett and Joseph Amrani and David Amrani both of Hamden. She also leaves behind great nieces and nephews in Virginia, and California. Though Rita never married, she was much more than an aunt to her family, serving as a surrogate grandmother and babysitter to great and great great nieces and nephews. She took pride in being a godmother and confirmation sponsor to many of them and generously supported their educational pursuits to help them achieve their dreams. After graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1943. Rita spent most of her working career at Burt Medical Lab Inc. as a Medical Lab Technician. She was a lifelong golfer who regularly played 18 holes well into her early eighties. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling the world with her sisters, visiting Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, and Morocco. Friends are invited to attend calling hours Monday September 22nd from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. A parlor service will take place at 10:30 in the same location. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
