Robert Cika Obituary

Robert John Cika, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on June 7, in Mystic, Connecticut, at the age of 91. Born and raised in Middletown, Connecticut, Bob led a full and vibrant life marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family and the sea. He proudly served in the U.S. Army before embarking on a 40-plus year career at Pratt & Whitney, starting as an apprentice and ultimately earning his associate degree at the age of 50. Bob's work ethic and lifelong commitment to learning earned him the respect of many. His unwavering faith and love for his family and friends truly defined him.
Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 61 years, Ellen Cross Cika, and a loving father to their three children, Mark Cika, Laura Thornton (Cika), and Scott Robert Cika. His family was always his priority, and he took great pride in being a supportive and constant presence in their lives. Bob was deeply involved in the lives of his granddaughters, and his generosity extended beyond his family; he was always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word, quick joke, or welcoming smile.
Passionate about boating, Bob was an active member of the United States Power Squadron, where he taught safe boating courses. He also served as Shellfish Commissioner for the town of Madison. He was a devoted member of the North Cove Yacht Club, where he served in various capacities through the years, including Commodore (1995-1996). Bob loved the camaraderie, the club cruises, and the friendly competition that the "Knee Deep YC" offered, racing radio-controlled sailboats around North Cove.
In retirement, Bob and Ellen enjoyed splitting their time between Connecticut and Florida, enjoying the warmer weather and continued time on the water. Bob was an accomplished artist and painter, woodworker, and talented handyman, always willing to help others with his skills. Bob and Ellen also enjoyed traveling throughout the world during his retirement. He enjoyed watching the New York Giants and listening to the Yankees on the radio.
Bob's sense of humor, quiet strength, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. Bob is survived by his wife, Ellen; children, Mark, Laura, and Scott; and his cherished granddaughters, who were the joy of his life. A private family service will be held at the veterans cemetery, with a Celebration of Bob's wonderful life to take place in July.

We are so sorry to learn of Bob´s passing. Such a fun guy! How can we ever forget our three-week cruise around the U.S. west, south and east and through the Panama Canal and other good times back in reality? We will remember Bob fondly and wish your whole family peace.
