Roberta Ladd Obituary

In Loving Memory of Roberta Ladd August 24, 1943 – September 26, 2025 Roberta Ladd, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Enfield, Connecticut on September 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 24, 1943, to Robert and Clara FitzGibbon, Roberta was a lifelong resident of Enfield. In 1966, she married Charles Ladd, and together they shared nearly 60 beautiful years of love and partnership. Their life together was a true testament to devotion and family. They raised two daughters, Allison Ladd and Ellen Platt, and built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring values. Roberta was predeceased by her parents, her sister Kathleen Robitaille, and her sister-in-law Eleanor Bellemore. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles; her daughters, Allison (Ibn Spicer) and Ellen (Michael Platt); and her cherished grandchildren, Katherine and Benjamin Platt. She also leaves behind her sisters, Virginia Higley and Patricia FitzGibbon; her sister-in-law, Carol Skowronek; brothers-in-law, Richard Robitaille and David Bellemore; many adored nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her dear friends, Anne and Dave Tangeman. A proud graduate of Enfield High School, Central Connecticut State University, and the University of Connecticut, Roberta dedicated over 30 years to teaching in Somers, CT. She found deep joy in helping young children learn to read and discover a lifelong love of learning. Her passion for education was matched only by her commitment to community. Roberta was actively involved in civic and community life throughout her years. She served on the Enfield Revitalization Committee, the Enfield Democratic Committee, the Garden Club, and the Enfield Senior Advisory Committee, among others. Her dedication to public service was a reflection of her generous spirit, and she encouraged others to give back in any way they could. Those who knew Roberta remember her love of decorating, her peaceful connection to the shore, her avid reading, and the joy she found in a good game of bridge. But above all, they remember her kind heart, her ready smile, and the way she always extended a helping hand. Roberta's legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and quiet strength. She made the world a better place-through her work, her friendships, and the love she gave freely. Her spirit will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services. Instead, please celebrate Roberta's life by performing random acts of kindness and supporting the causes closest to your heart. Donations in her memory may be made to the Friends of the Enfield Library or to a charity of your choice. Please raise a glass in Roberta's honor. She would have loved that.

Bert was one of my favorites people that called Enfield home. Elizabeth and I knew her from Enfield Foundation for Excellence in Education where we did some great work for Enfield teachers. She was always such a delight with kindness in her heart. A great example of getting things done while still being a kind person.

And her smile....

I´m very sorry for her family. She will be missed.
