Roger Peter Abate

Roger Peter Abate, 86, of Avon, beloved husband of Marcia (Juliano) Abate, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in New Haven, CT, son of the late Horace and Anita (Deglinnocenti) Abate, he was raised in Hamden. Roger graduated from Hamden High School in 1956 and earned his BA in Business from The University of Connecticut in 1960. Roger started his career with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (now Cigna) in Group Sales in New Haven. After a few years, he and his family relocated to Columbus, OH where he was appointed Group Sales Manager. In 1972, he decided to take a position in the Home Office in Bloomfield, CT so he could be closer to extended family. In 1982, he joined MassMutual where he became Vice President of Field Group Sales Operations. After retiring from his insurance career in 1996, he aspired to help others with their careers. He started Career Coaching Services LLC in Avon, and after serving over one thousand clients, he finally retired again at the age of 78. He loved woodworking and making many heirlooms for his family. In addition, Roger took pride in maintaining his home and enjoyed yard work, building stone walls, and gardening. He and Marcia played tennis at the Golf Club of Avon and enjoyed twelve summers at their home in East Orleans, MA. Travel was an important part of their lives and Tuscany was a favorite destination. Roger was a communicant of the Church of Saint Ann. He was also an avid UConn Basketball and Boston Red Sox fan. Besides his beloved wife, Marcia, he leaves three sons, Mark A. Abate and his wife Melissa of Hopkinton, MA; Glenn D. Abate and his wife Lisa of Avon; and Scott P. Abate and his wife Becky of Rumford, RI; his adored grandchildren Molly C. Abate, Connor M. Abate, Jordan C. Abate and his wife Jessica, and Riley C. Abate; a sister, Linda A. Plankey of Hamden; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dear friends and neighbors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday April 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
