Ronald Arthur Driscoll (90) of Avon and Farmington passed away on August 12, 2025. He is predeceased by both parents, John Tracy Driscoll and Adell Hambleton Driscoll as well as his beloved wife of 63 years, Kathleen O'Neill Driscoll.
Ron is survived by his two children, John (Jack) Driscoll of Simsbury and Amy Driscoll Gold of Marblehead, MA and his four grandchildren, Sean and Annie Driscoll of Avon and Connor and Sarah Gold of Marblehead, his son-in-law, Jonathan (Jon) Gold, his sisters, Gae Larson (Richard), Susan Kurtz (Ed), and Gene Otterway (Paul).
Ron grew up in South Windsor, CT. He graduated from Ellsworth High School as a member of the Class of 1952. He received The Harvard Book Award, served as Class President, and was the Captain of the Baseball and Basketball teams. He was voted Most Likely to Succeed and Most Versatile. Ron was a true scholar and leader. He went on to study at Dartmouth College and graduated as a History major in 1956. Ron's interest in History continued throughout his life and he enthusiastically shared his knowledge with Jack and Amy through their annual summer road trips to national landmarks throughout the U.S. These excursions were filled with discussions about the historical importance of what was being visited and their impact on future events. The car drives were often exceedingly long and especially hot – but because of Ron's engaging stories and innumerable ridiculous "dad" jokes, they were fun and wonderfully memorable.
Immediately upon graduating from Dartmouth, Ron served in the U.S. Army and after his honorable discharge, he proudly continued his service in the Army reserves for many years.
Ron enjoyed a successful business career. He was Vice President and Director of Brokerage at Morley, Watson & Baldwin and Assistant General Agent and Brokerage Director for Connecticut and Mass Mutual Life Insurance Companies. He received the Chartered Life Underwriters Designation (CLU) and subsequently served as President of the Hartford Chapter of CLU and CHFC. During Ron's 30+ year career, he received many national awards. His success was directly attributable to his work ethic, intelligence, integrity, and overall decency. Ron's colleagues and clients appreciated that his motivation was to do what best and right for others – not to close the deal and enrich himself. Ron earned and kept people's trust and was a gentleman.
An avid sports fan, Ron rarely missed a UCONN Basketball game – Men's or Women's. He was also a long-suffering Red Sox fan and enjoyed going to Fenway with his family to cheer them on regardless of score. He also enjoyed coaching Jack's Little League teams and loved watching Amy, Sean, Annie, Connor, and Sarah play their respective sports.
Most important to Ron was his family. Ron was a wonderful son to his parents and a beloved brother to Gae, Sue, and Gene. He was an adored father and grandfather to Jack, Amy, Sean, Annie, Connor, and Sarah. At the center of all of this was his love of Kathleen. Their long and happy marriage was one of kindness, respect, and support.
