Ronald Mattacchione, 79, of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in the Bronx, NY, Ron was the beloved son of the late Laurence L. Matt and Anne (Glass) Mattacchione. He later moved to Connecticut, where he graduated from Windham Regional Technical School. A proud patriot, Ron dedicated much of his life to serving his country in the United States Navy. Over the course of a distinguished career, he rose to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, retiring in 1985.
Following his retirement, Ron settled in Rome, NY, where he spent the rest of his life enjoying the peace and beauty of the region he loved.
A passionate outdoorsman, Ron looked forward each year to the start of fishing season, spending countless hours in his boat on Delta Lake. As the seasons changed, so did his pursuits-he eagerly welcomed hunting season and cherished time spent in the woods with friends and family.
Ron was also a lifelong sports enthusiast, with a special love of baseball. A proud and loyal Mets fan, he never missed a game and counted down the days to spring training each year.
In addition to his love for the outdoors and sports, Ron had a true talent for cooking. With a knack for transforming simple ingredients into delicious meals. He also enjoyed biking and taking long walks around the lake.
Ron is survived by his loving children: Gina (David) Girardini, Paula (Rich) Labbe, Joe Mattacchione, and Sarah (Derick) Streater; his cherished grandchildren: Angela (James) Wilkins, Alyssa Oddo, Tyler (Katlyn) Labbe, Marc (Logan) Labbe, Ryan Girardini, and Kaitlin Girardini; and his adored great-grandsons: Grayson and Easton Wilkins, and Chase Labbe. He will also be dearly missed by his extended family in New Jersey and his many friends in Rome.
In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his brother, Laurence Mattacchione, and his beloved nephew, Joseph Mattacchione.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Cayuga Medical Center for their compassionate and dedicated care.

Shriners Children's Hospital.
