Rufus David Desso Jr.

Rufus David Desso Jr., 96, of Somers, CT, passed away on February 19, 2025. Born in Enfield, CT, on February 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Rufus D. and Euphemia (Sinton) Desso, Sr. Rufus proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and throughout his life, he remained a devoted and active member of his community. He resided in Somers for 26 years, he had previously lived in Stafford Springs and Melbourne, FL. Rufus retired from the Connecticut Department of Correction after 24 years of service and served as a constable for the Somers Police Department for many years. A longtime parishioner of Somers Congregational Church, Rufus cherished friendships with people from Florida all the way to Maine. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and dedication to those around him. Rufus is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and many extended family members who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor (Palmer) Desso, in 2019, as well as his sons Richard and Scot Desso and his sister Phyllis Sweet. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Rufus' name, in honor of his wife Eleanor, to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 5 – 7 pm at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers, CT 06071.
