Theodore Curtin Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Theodore "Ted" Michael Curtin who passed away at home surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer on March 19, 2025. Born in Holyoke, MA, on April 27, 1946, Ted lived a fulfilling and vibrant life, spreading kindness and generosity throughout his 78 years. Raised in the close-knit community of the flats in Holyoke and later residing in Chicopee for 53 years, Ted was a devoted family man and respected member of his community. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Edward Curtin and Mary (O'Rourke) Harnois, and Stepfather John Harnois, and his cherished wife, Darlene Curtin. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his three children: Bryndis Curtin of Belchertown, Mary Vieira and husband Michael of Ludlow, and Tom Curtin and wife Emily of South Hadley. Ted was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren: Eric, Tylor, Emily, Nathan, and Spencer. Among his surviving family are his four siblings: Ann Guilbeau and husband Tony, Michael Harnois and wife Diane, Elizabeth Cournoyer, John Harnois and wife Barbara. Also, sister-in-law Evelyn Anderson and husband Paul, and brother-in-law Larry Auclair and wife Mendy. He also leaves behind his dear companion, Rosa Fields, as well as many, nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends. A proud veteran of the US Navy, Ted served with distinction during the Vietnam War. Ted owned and operated Repworks Inc. in South Hadley for 38 years, where he was esteemed among peers for his exceptional knowledge and expertise in the industry. Ted's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an enthusiastic member of the Amherst Railway Society and the Pioneer Valley Pond and Koi Club. He harbored a deep appreciation for the arts and indulged his love for music, movies, literature and holiday decorating, especially for Christmas. His Irish heritage was a source of immense pride, and his spirited personality made him a cherished friend to many. Known for his unwavering positivity and uplifting nature, Ted loved to host a good party, sharing his passions for travel, trains, and collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia with those close to him. A connoisseur of fine cigars and good bourbon, Ted enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, always in the company of his many lifelong friends. Services honoring Ted will commence with a visitation on Thursday, March 27th from 4-7 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. On Friday, March 28th, calling hours will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at the funeral home.
