Walter Frank Fertig Sr.

Walter Frank Fertig Sr passed away after several years of illness on May 13, 2025, at the age of 91. He is reunited with his beloved high school sweetheart and soul mate Betty who passed in January just days before their 70th wedding anniversary. Walter was born in Fontana, CA, the youngest of 6 children, growing up on the family Orange Grove and farm. He and Betty married in 1955 and had 5 children, Margaret, Sally, Becky, Amy(deceased) and Walter Jr. They also had 5 grandchildren; Jennifer, Amy, Chris, Frank, and Maggie, and 5 great grandchildren, Charlotte and Hunter, Eli, Walter and Joanna. After graduating high school, Walter entered a 4 year apprenticeship program in San Diego with UCSD and the US Navy earning an Associates Degree and graduating at the top of his class in design, drafting, blueprint drawing and machining. After graduating he went to work for General Atomic/Dynamics in their Energy Department and was instrumental in designing steam generators for Nuclear Power Plants in the 60's, and held several patents for his design work. He later left the corporate world and bought a hardware & lumber company in Granby, CT, Granby Home & Handyman, which he and Betty ran for 15 years. He also worked as a design consultant to several manufacturing companies. He was an avid collector of antiques. He loved car shows and swap meets, auctions, tag sales, always looking for something old, unusual or just 'good stuff'. He loved to fix old clocks and was known for his talent. Walter was an honorable man, kind, respectful, extremely intelligent, generous, and loved his family. May he and Betty be happy, healthy and at peace together. Love you Dad!
