William McCormack Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of William Edward McCormack Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. William peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the age of 85 at Live Well in Southington, CT. Born on December 27, 1939 in West Hartford, Connecticut, the cherished son of William and Mary McCormack. Bill attended Hall High School and later graduated from St. Francis College (now the University of New England), where he laid the foundation for a life devoted to education and service. After earning his degree, he devoted himself to teaching high school English at St. Thomas Aquinas in New Britain, where he nurtured and inspired countless students with his passion for literature and the written word. Following his career in education, Bill found a new calling serving the community through the State of Connecticut Department of Education and Bureau of Disabilities, where he worked tirelessly for over 20 years. His dedication, kindness, and commitment to others were hallmarks of his character. Bill was a loving husband to his wife, Linda Joan McCormack (Gallagher) of Naugatuck, and together they shared a marriage filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect for over 50 years. As a father, he was a constant source of wisdom and support, always encouraging his children to pursue their dreams and stay true to their values. His family was his greatest pride and joy. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Keara McCormack-Veno, married to Thomas Veno, and his cherished grandson, Drew Thomas Veno, of Cheshire. He also leaves his beloved son, Michael Liam McCormack, and his partner Tara Jay, and his two adored grandchildren, Carlie Bridget McCormack and Brennan Michael McCormack, of Simsbury. Bill's love for his family knew no bounds, and he treasured every moment spent with them. A man of great humor, generosity, and warmth, Bill will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, his ability to bring joy to those around him, and his unwavering loyalty. His legacy will live on through the memories he created with all who had the privilege of knowing him. In addition to his immediate family, Bill leaves behind a circle of friends and extended family who will forever hold his memory close in their hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bill's life on Friday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church,626 Willard Ave., Newington. He will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery following the mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to LiveWell (dementia care) in Bill's memory (livewell.org). Our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr McCormack. My wife and I were Aquinas graduates from the class of 1969. We have fond memories of his English class, especially benefitting from his impressive lists of vocabulary words which we committed to memory and still draw from today. A good man who devoted his life to serving others. He will be missed.
