Berwyn McCance Obituary
Berwyn E. "Gene" McCance, 96, of Bushnell, IL passed away at 1:25 pm on Monday February 19, 2024 at The Elms Nursing Home. He was born November 12, 1927 in Youngstown, IL to Claude M. and Grace V. (Scott) McCance. He married Donna B. Rhodes on August 5, 1950 in Bushnell, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are five children, Grace (Peter) Wenz of Springfield, IL; Gayla (Bruce) Sullivan of Bushnell, IL; Mike (Tanya) McCance of Bardstown, KY; Marla (Paul) Chadderdon of Bushnell, IL; Renee (Terry) Moore of Good Hope, IL; 13 grandchildren, Jason Curry, Erin (Mike) Totosz, Colton McCance, Rene (Harvey Gilvin) Bobblit, Aaron (Katie) Blanford, LeeAnn Abel, Brandy (Doug) Allaman, Trenton Sullivan, Genna (Matthew Polito) Chadderdon, Matthew (Vanya) Chadderdon, Billie Chadderdon, Jeremy (Jenny) Moore, Courtney (Tim) Formhals; several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings, Josephine (Leonard) Sorrells, Doris (Bob) Hensley, Inez (Raymond) Roark, Helen (Ernest) Suter, Nola (Bill) Avery, Theda (William) Trout, Peggy (Bob) Williamson, Claude (Pearl) McCance, Kenneth (Irene) McCance, Glen (Naomi) McCance, Wendell (Maye) McCance, Gaylord (Lyla) McCance.
Gene was a WWII US Army veteran and participated in the Army occupation of Japan. He served with many local men, and they remained lifelong friends. He, along with his brothers, were strong supporters of the local VFW post 1422. He spent many years on the honor guard and was a past commander of the post. He was a lifelong Chicago Cub and Bears fan and was able see both teams become World Champions He donated many hours to the construction of the Bushnell city swimming pool and the Veterans Memorial in the VFW park. He worked locally many years as a plumber and then later as a union pipe fitter and supervisor before his retirement.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday February 26, 2024 at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home with Bob Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
