Bonna Gratton Obituary

Bonna Renee Gratton, 66, of Barry, IL, passed away on July 12, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL surrounded by the love of her family. Born March 29, 1959, in Pittsfield, IL, Bonna lived a life marked by strength, compassion, and kindness. She attended Griggsville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Quincy University in 1985. Bonna worked at Quanada of Pike County as a child and legal advocate and crisis intervention worker-a career that reflected her deep empathy and commitment to protecting the vulnerable. Later, she embraced the role of homemaker with the same dedication and care. She married Everett "Tony" Gratton on February 29, 1992, a leap day wedding they loved to joke about over the years. Together, they enjoyed scenic drives through the countryside and frequent stops at the Dari Ripple for her favorite treat, a Snickers flurry. Bonna was the heart of her family-a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished hosting family dinners every Sunday. She will be remembered for her selflessness, generosity, and unconditional love, as well as her strong will, clever wit, and a sassy streak that kept everyone on their toes. She loved tending to her flower garden, getting lost in the pages of a book, watching HGTV while dreaming up her next DIY project, baking sweets, and playing cards. Her Christian faith was central to her life; she prayed daily for those she loved, leaned on scripture during times of hardship, and found peace through her belief in Christ. She is survived by her husband, Tony; son, Scott (Julie) Garrett; grandchildren, Natiaya Thompson (Daken Fee), Mackenzie Garrett (Jacob Motley), AnnaBelle Triplett, Brookelynn Ruble, Brantley Ruble, and Raylan Garrett; brother, Randy (Melissa) Coultas; niece, Shelley (Dean) Moyer; nephew, Chris Coultas; uncle, Ray Seyl; aunt, Alice Doyle; special friends, Becky, Dory, and Sally, and Joann; and many extended family. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Freda and Ronald Akers; special friend, Mary Snyder; beloved pet, Jazz; and several cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, with graveside service to follow at Gray Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Quanada. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
