Cheryl Nelson Obituary
Cheryl Lynn Nelson (Webster), 76, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025.
Born on March 22, 1949, at Phelps Hospital in Macomb, Illinois, Cheryl was the eldest of four siblings. After completing her education at Northwestern High School, she devoted a significant part of her life to Western Illinois University, where she worked with dedication until her retirement in 2014. Cheryl was loved for her humor and kindness, often inviting WIU students to her family gatherings during holidays, especially those who couldn't be with their own families. Many of these students maintained contact with her long after graduation, a testament to the strong connections she fostered throughout her career.
Cheryl was known for her passion for quilting and spent much of her retirement making blankets that will be cherished by many. She was an enthusiastic reader with a strong passion for history. One of her most memorable experiences was her trip to Washington, DC, where she had the opportunity to explore significant historical sites and learn more about the nation's past. She also loved to vacation in Florida on the beach with fond memories of going with her girlfriends shortly after high school and again with her mom, sister, daughter, and niece. She also loved to watch old Western TV shows and listen to music from the 1960s and 1970s, with a particular fondness for Bobby Vinton, the Eagles, the Statler Brothers, and others. She loved hummingbirds and enjoyed watching them at the feeder outside her home. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandkids, Samantha and Jonathan. Their laughter and presence filled her heart with warmth and joy.
She leaves behind her daughter, Stephanie (Nelson) and son-in-law Derek Domain, and her cherished grandchildren, Samantha and Jonathan. Cheryl is also lovingly remembered by her brother, Wayne (Sally) Webster; her sister, Luan (Darrell) Ippensen; her sister-in-law, Wanda Webster; her nieces and nephews; her great-niece and great-nephew; and many cousins. She joins her mother, Betty Jean Webster, her brother, Scott Webster, and her niece, Kris Kaenter, in eternal rest.
In accordance with Cheryl's wishes, there will be a private graveside service. Jones Funeral Chapel in Colchester is helping the family with arrangements. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
