David Scott Obituary

"King" David Scott, 65, of Quincy, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Quincy, IL. David was born September 5, 1960, in Quincy, IL to George and Bonnie Jean (Sayles) Scott. Survivors include his two children, Keith C. Scott of Hannibal, MO, and Chynna Scott of Canton, MO; two grandchildren, Tristin Doss and Malcom Arrington; two brothers, Bruce Scott and Lynell Scott; one sister, Memory Scott; a favorite special niece, Gayla Aaron Davis (Charles); a best friend, Oscar "Steve" Davis; and many other nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mark Anthony Scott, Darnell Scott, and Lamar Scott; and two sisters, Laura Holman and Patricia Sanders. David graduated from Quincy High School in 1978. He worked as a handyman and at Hooey's Tavern for several years. An avid lover of the outdoors, David found solace and joy in yardwork and landscaping, not only for himself but also for his neighbors. His playful spirit was evident in his love for games; whether it was slots, cards, or dominoes, where he earned the endearing nickname "Domino Dummy" from his friends. David's knowledge of athletics was unparalleled, especially when it came to college football, where his insights into the sport's up-and-coming players were highly regarded. A die-hard Cardinals fan, David's enthusiasm for his team was infectious. His love for music was just as passionate, with old R&B tunes and gospel music often filling the rooms of his home. But it was David's love for people that truly defined him. He was a people person, always ready to share a laugh, a story, or a piece of advice. David's culinary skills were legendary among his loved ones, especially his famous meatloaf and butter biscuits, which were staples at family gatherings. His presence at these events was a given, always the first to arrive and the last to leave, savoring every moment spent with those he held dear. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Friends and Family are invited to "King" David's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Friday, October 24, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Quincy, IL. David was a friend of mine, he mowed for me a few times and was quick to lend a helping hand. I have the same name as his mother, Bonnie Jean, he got a kick out of that. My sympathy goes out to the family and his friends
