Don R. Howell

Don R. Howell, 90 of Kahoka formerly of Wyaconda, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO. He was born on November 28, 1934, in Luray, Missouri, the youngest son of Victor and Imogene Dieterich Howell. Don graduated from Wyaconda C-1 High School with the Class of 1952. In June of 1957, Don enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. During his service, he was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he drove a staff car for Colonel Robinson. On August 17, 1957 Don was united in marriage to Norma Jean "Cookie" Albright in Kahoka, Missouri. She survives. Besides his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Doris Gates of Kahoka and two sons, Gary Howell (Jan) of Gorin, Mark Howell (Yvette) of Montrose, IA, his grandchildren, Kim Taylor (Beau) and Tristan Howell and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Loyd Howell (Helen), Emery Howell (Freda), Dean Howell, and Glen Howell (Jean and later Virgie); and four sisters: Almeta Egbert (Linley), Evelyn Teel (Paul), Iva McKinney (Wayne), and Edna Schuster (Leland). Don was employed with Keokuk Steel Castings in the maintenance department as an electrician for thirty-seven years retiring in 1999. He also served on the Wyaconda C-1 School Board for many years. A graveside service with military rites was held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wyaconda Cemetery. Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with the family meeting with friends at that time. A procession will leave the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wyaconda Cemetery.
