Douglas Mowen Obituary

Douglas Ray Mowen, age 57, of Camp Point, formerly of Quincy, died Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 12:30 am in Timber Point Health Care Center in Camp Point. Doug was born August 3, 1967, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Donald E. and Connie Mae Disselhorst Mowen. Being raised on the family farm, he was involved with 4-H and loved tending to the livestock. He also had a soft spot for the chickens and cats on the farm. He was a 1985 graduate of Quincy High School. He continued his education by obtaining an associate degree in agricultural production management from John Wood Community College. Doug briefly worked as a plumbers apprentice at Jim Schuessler Plumbing, and in housekeeping at John Wood. He also worked for Quincy Freightliner for seven years, delivering parts across the tri-state area. Doug was involved with the Shriners and was 3rd Degree Mason with Lambert Lodge #659 A.F. and A.M. He was also a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy. He was involved with Belgian Hitch, helping to set up and participating in various events, including local parades. He also drove the calliope truck in many a local parade. Doug had many challenges throughout his life, but he never gave up, never gave in to despair. He always kept his chin up and a positive attitude. Survivors include: his mother, Connie Mae Mowen of Quincy; three siblings, Kathy Jo Mowen of Fowler, IL, Dean (Sylvia) Mowen of Quincy, and Karen Sue Voss of Palmyra, MO; nieces and nephews, Courtney Wright, Carrie Stratman, Mitchell Mowen, Sierra Voss, and Kanon Voss; and numerous other family members and friends. Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Mowen, and a sister-in-law, Julie Myers. Visitation: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Tuesday April 22, 2025, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Services: 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Matthew Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Triple Oaks Club 3:00 to 7:00 pm, on Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to Blessing Hospice.
