Ida Painter Obituary

Ida "Penny" Jeanette Painter, 62, of Stoutsville, MO, passed away at 1:32 AM, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at her home. Funeral Services with full Military Honors performed by Boots-Dickson Post #174 of the American Legion will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the O'Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Monroe City, MO. Deacon Mike Long and Mr. Jason Fleenor will officiate. Friends and Family are invited to Penny's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, October 6, 2025, at the O'Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Monroe City, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the O'Donnell-Thurman Life Celebration Home in Monroe City, MO. Penny was born November 13, 1962, in Beattyville, KY to Billy Lowell Thomas and Arvada Maloney Thomas. She married William Robnett "Robbie" Painter, March 15, 1985, in Virginia Beach, VA. He survives. Other survivors include her children, William Thomas (Mandy) Painter of Monroe City, MO, Alicia (Andrew) Smith of Alma, MO, grandchildren, Macy, Josiah, and Jordyn Painter, Grady Smith, brother, Billy (Pam) Thomas, Jr. of Beattyville, KY, sisters, Jacqueline (Shannon) Lance of Winchester, KY, Tammy (Larry) Evans of Beattyville, KY and numerous nieces and nephews. Penny was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, David Thomas, Daniel Thomas and James Thomas. Penny's educational journey began at Eastern Kentucky University. Her commitment to her nation shone during her time in the US Navy, serving at the Navy Towers in Norfolk, Virginia. Her devotion and exemplary performance were acknowledged when she was honored as Sailor of the Month. As a title insurance writer and real estate closing facilitator, she helped countless individuals in their quest for homeownership. Her tenure at the Ice House further illustrated her versatile capabilities and unwavering professional commitment. Penny had a love for adventure and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Cancun, Gulf Shores, and Niagara Falls. Penny had a zest for life and a feisty edge; she was known for her quick wit and memorable comebacks that left smiles on the faces of those around her. Penny loved deeply. She liked to attend the horse races and the sounds of the slot machines. She took pleasure in the simpler pastimes, too, like mushroom hunting, keeping up with the drama on "The Young and the Restless," and delighting in the wit of game show contestants and reading Harlequin Romance novels. A collector at heart, Penny surrounded herself with treasures that captured moments in time-Longaberger Baskets, Precious Moments figurines and Beanie Babies. She had a fondness for lighthouses, drawn to their strength, beauty, and guiding light. Penny's laughter, and her legacy will be cherished memories of family, friends, and the many lives she touched. Penny was Christian by faith. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Colbert, Mike Minor, Les Minor, Jim Shortridge, Charles Rubison and Bill Goodwin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Co. Cancer Supporters.
