John Grover Pollitt

John Grover Pollitt, 82 of Keokuk, IA passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at his home. He was born September 23, 1942 in Canton, IL the son of Richard Scott and Etta Haynes Pollitt. He graduated from Birmingham High School with the class of 1961. John was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and proudly served his country. It was during his time stationed in Keokuk that he met the love of his life, Sandra Hemingway. Their connection was instant, and their faith and values laid the foundation for a lifelong partnership. They were united in marriage on July 28, 1963, at Keokuk Assembly of God, beginning a journey together filled with love, devotion, and faith for over 60 years. In addition to his wife, John is survived by one daughter, Lisa Morris (Chris) of Pella, IA, two sons, Chris Pollitt and Stephen Pollitt both of Keokuk and three grandchildren, Christian Morris, Reverend Elizabeth Morris and Joshua Pollitt and a brother, Charles Smith of Fairfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Lori Ann Pollitt and one brother, Richard Pollitt. John had been employed by Hubingers/Roquette in Keokuk for forty-two years, until his retirement in 2007. A man of faith, John was a longtime member of Living Waters Assembly of God in Keokuk. He was actively involved in the life of the church, serving on the church board for many years, including as treasurer, and leading numerous repair and maintenance projects. He also enjoyed playing on the church softball league for many seasons. Known for his generous spirit, John was always willing to lend a hand to others whenever there was a need. Outside of church, he was a passionate sports fan, especially devoted to the L.A. Dodgers and the Iowa Hawkeyes, cheering them on with great enthusiasm. John was also known for his delicious apple pie, a family favorite that he loved to bake-often with his granddaughter by his side as his faithful assistant in the kitchen. A funeral service was held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Living Waters Assembly of God in Keokuk with Pastor Larry Wallingford officiating. Burial with military rites was held in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation was held after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 5 – 7 p.m. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of John, please visit our Tree Store.
