Kevin Loop Obituary
Kevin A. Loop, 54, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on Friday October 4, 2024 at his residence.
Born June 29th, 1970 in Macomb, Illinois. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Dorothy Loop; sisters Jody (Tracie) Loop of Chatham, Illinois, Janet (Robert) McKeown and their daughters, Maddie and Melanie of Springfield, Illinois; twin brother, Kent Loop (Kimberly Bennett) of Evanston, Illinois and his three children, Jackson, Samuel, and Natalie Loop. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Loren and Mary Loop, and Ray and Lula Cheely.
While attending Macomb Senior High, Kevin performed in all the Arts including Marching Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra as first chair Trombonist. He sang Tenor parts with a range well into Bass in both the Swing Choir and Chorus Groups. As a Junior he played the lead as J. Pierrepont Finch in the Musical, " How to Succeed In Business without Really Trying" He also carved out time to serve as a peer counselor for students struggling with depression. After graduating in 1988 he went on to Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio where he played Lancelot in the musical "Camelot" and acquired a Bachelor in Vocal Performance. He then completed his Masters in Vocal Performance at Western Illinois University.
Kevin was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ of Macomb and Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Springfield, Il.
After College Kevin taught music and movement to children as a Kindermusik affiliate, a program with a holistic approach to early childhood education integrating music with language and social interaction. He was driven to help young people who felt they didnt fit in with societal norms. He became an advocate in the fight against bullying and shaming of people who are different. More recently he was involved in the Trama Drama training workshops, "Yes" and "Brain" in Springfield, and a peer counselor in the New Survivor Recovery Center.
Kevin was a lifelong learner, recently taking courses at the Stratford Institute in Relaxation Therapy to acquire new techniques to calm the mind and body and was aspiring to be a Therapist applying to California Institute for Integral Studies to help neurodivergent people in todays society.
Visitation and Memorial Service will be held Friday October 11, 2024 at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, with Rev. Kelly Ingersoll as officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and the Memorial Service will begin at 11 am. Cremation has been accorded.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Giving | FCC Macomb or The Trevor Project - Suicide Prevention for LGBTQ+ Young People.
