Lue Ella Bursewicz

Lue Ella Bursewicz, 92 of Canton, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Missouri. The daughter of Elmer and Iva Davis Sappenfield was born on May 18, 1933 in Lorhville, Iowa. She served as a court reporter in the U.S. Air Force from August 1956 until August 1959. She was united in marriage to John Bursewicz on December 20, 1958 at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2021. Lue was a member of the Canton Christian Church and later attended Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Missouri Bluebird Society. She loved to spend time helping on her family's homesteaded farm in southern Indiana, attending Missouri Conservation Department activities and traveling. She is survived by two daughters, Susie (DeWayne) Wright of Urbana, Il. and Ruth Davis of Canton, Mo.; a granddaughter, Susan Alexandra Wright of Carbondale, Il.; a cousin, Anne Sappenfield of New York City, NY; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, David Bursewicz, four sisters, Verna Mae Hicks, Irene Flessner, Ruth Bega and her identical twin Sue Sappenfield with whom she served in the Air Force, seven brothers, Robert, Don, Marvin, George, Arlis, Harry and Alva Sappenfield. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, Missouri with Rev. Paul Kinney officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Otto Bruner Post #170 of Canton. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Bluebird Society.
