Marvin Smallwood Obituary
Marvin E. Smallwood, 82 of New London, MO passed away at 6:04 AM Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Luther Manor Retirement and Nursing Center in Hannibal, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.
Marvin was born on July 29, 1942 in Hannibal, MO to William E. and Pearlie B. Taylor Smallwood.
He was married to Dorothy Hendren on July 11, 1964 in Hannibal, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Anthony "Tony" Smallwood of New London, MO and James "JD" Smallwood (Deana) of Muskogee, OK; seven grandchildren: Russell Cooper of Omaha, NE, Amy Mathews of Memphis, MO, Kaysi Foster (Steven) of Warrensburg, MO, Christopher Smallwood of Midland, TX and Jacob Smallwood of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Alexandra Smallwood of Okmuogee, OK, Kelsey Smallwood of Jacksonville, FL; six great grandchildren: Karli Foster, Grayson Dunn, Aiden and Kasen Mathews and Caroline and Rias Smallwood; one sister Marian Long (Ronnie) of Frankford, MO and one brother-in-law, Leroy Barton of Leadwood, MO and nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Smallwood, two sisters: Mary Ellen Glascock and Alice Barton, one brother-in-law, Clarence Glascock and two grandchildren: Anthony "TJ" Smallwood and Emily Smallwood.
A 1959 graduate from High School, Marvin's class was the first class to graduate from the "new High School" in Center, MO.
Marvin served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam era. Marvin was very proud of the opportunity that he had to go on the Great River Honor Flight with his son, Tony.
Marvin began his career working at the Cerf Bag Company in New London, MO. He then worked for 25 years with Iron Workers Local #577. He retired in 2004 from the Ralls County Highway Department.
In his free time, Marvin loved to hunt deer, spend time with his horses and catch catfish from his pond on the farm. He also liked to play cards with his family. Marvin was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Emmette J. Shield American Legion Post #55 of Hannibal, MO.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Smallwood, Jacob Smallwood, Clarence Glascock, Ronald Long, Sam Miller and Jeff Ferris.
Honorary pallbearer will be Kenny Glascock.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Great River Honor Flight or to the Luther Manor Activity Fund.
