Mary "Rosie" Markham

Mary "Rosie" Markham, 99, of Bushnell, Illinois passed away peacefully at 9:29 pm on Tuesday March 12, 2024, at Courtyard Estates of Bushnell surrounded by family. She was born August 8, 1924, in Schuyler County, IL to Hollis W. and Martha M. (Dixon) Smith. She married Willard D. Markham on February 11, 1942. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1988. Surviving are two children, Gene (Loretta) Markham of Adair, IL; Mae (Tom) Furniss of Bushnell, IL; five grandchildren, Amy (Cory) Ebert, Angela (Brad) DeRenzy, Andrea (Lance) Ryan, Mike (Sarah) Markham, and Mark (Dena) Furniss; 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, James, and John Smith and two children in infancy, Bonnie and Johnnie Markham. Rosie was a homemaker. She worked at numerous jobs throughout her life. She worked at GTE, the local laundromat, and B-PC Schools. She was part owner at Markham-Hawkins Implement, and Benders in Bushnell. She was a 50 year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed visiting with most everyone. Also, she enjoyed going to the gambling boat, playing bingo and cards, and watching ballgames rooting for the Cubs were her favorite pastimes. Cremation Rites have been accorded by Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday April 5, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the Bushnell VFW Post 1422. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Bushnell Rescue Squad.
