Michael Gray Obituary

Michael (Mickey) Scott Gray, a cherished and beloved figure in his community and family, passed away on July 11, 2025, at Christiana Hospital due to heart failure.
Born on August 3, 1971, in Cambridge, Maryland, Mickey's zest for life and his compassionate heart touched the lives of all who knew him.
Mickey is survived by his devoted life partner of 26 years, Brian McGinnis, and their three beloved dogs, Ella, Sam, and Sylvia, who were like babies to them. His legacy of love and laughter is also carried on by his loving parents, Mary Linda and Donald Gray, his sister Lyndsey Wilson and her husband Griff Wilson, his adored niece Katlin Hernandez, and his ex-brother-in-law Juan Hernandez.
His cherished in-laws, Pat and Paul McGinnis, held a special place in his heart, as did his brothers-in-law and their wives, Tennille and Duffy McGinnis, Michael and Kim McGinnis, and his nephews, Will and Tommy McGinnis, His Niece and her husband Jordanne and Logan Lawson, and his Great Niece, Isla James Lawson. Mickey always had a special bond with his nephew Justin McGinnis.
Mickey's educational journey concluded at Dorchester where he graduated with a community that would always remember his infectious smile. His professional life was marked by his tenure at Wendover, affectionately known as Wendy's, where he excelled as a store manager. It was there that he formed enduring friendships, particularly with his boss Tony and his friend Debbie, who became an integral part of his life.
A man of faith, Mickey was a devout Christian who lived his beliefs through his actions and the love he shared with others. His interests were as varied as they were heartfelt, ranging from his love for shopping to his passion for spending quality time with his dogs. Family gatherings were the highlight of his life, and he was the soul who kept the family connected, frequently calling to check on everyone each day.
Mickey had a unique sense of humor, often engaging in playful banter with his democrat friends about Trump, only to end the conversation with his signature line, "Doctor calling, got to go," leaving them in a mix of exasperation and laughter. This blend of humor and care defined Mickey's approach to life. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Mickey lived by these words, making an indelible impact on all he encountered.
Mickey's memory will live on in the hearts of his many friends, including Dan Mills, Cheryl Hughes, Traci Hill, John Lawson, Martia McGinnis, and Dawn Queensen, among many others. He was a beacon of joy, a source of comfort, and the embodiment of love to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit and the memories he created will forever be a guiding light for his loved ones. Mickey's life was a testament to the beauty of human connection, and his story will be told with fondness and admiration for generations to come.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna, Delaware. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna.
