Robert Schreck Obituary

Robert L. Schreck, 83, of St. Francisville passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Ft. Madison, IA. Born December 16, 1941, the son of William J. "Bill" and Gladys Kilkenny Schreck, Bob attended Saint Peter's Catholic School and Cardinal Stritch High School graduating in the class of 1959. He married Sharon Glasgow in 1965 and to the union two children, Tim and Heather were born. In 1983, Bob married the woman he referred to as the love of his life, Ginger and her three children, Doug Wendling, Gina Ramsey, and Jamie Wendling were added to create their family. Bob was drafted into the Army in 1963 but was honorably discharged with a back injury. He worked at Power City Patterns from 1965 to 1987. He opened Wayland Pattern in 1987 and ran it until 2006, when he retired. A lifelong resident of St. Francisville, Missouri, Bob moved into his home when he was ten years old and lived there the rest of his life. He loved the outdoors. There wasn't a fish in the Des Moines River that was safe when Bob had it on his mind to drop a line. He was an avid fisherman, master gardener, mushroom hunter, horseshoe thrower, and pool shark! Bob would get up early, hop in his truck, and drive around to see what was out and about. He could spot a mushroom from his truck, sometimes using binoculars, and would often send his riding partner out to pick them. He could find birds, animals, and plants as he drove around that no one else would notice. He loved nature and time in the woods, respected wildlife, and spent many hours on the Des Moines river, which he knew like the back of his hand. Bob received many compliments on his garden and loved sharing its bounty with friends and family. Bob appreciated good food and was thankful for Ginger's delicious meals she lovingly made for him. A man of deep faith, Bob spent many hours talking with Father Rob who visited him once a week. He looked forward to and enjoyed the time they spent together. Besides his wife Ginger, he is survived by a son, Tim Schreck (Shonda Ludwick) of Wayland, a daughter, Heather Schreck (Robbie Reed) of Quincy, along with three stepchildren, Doug Wendling (Megan) of Kahoka, Gina Ramsey of Wayland, and Jamie Wendling (Laurie Gilliam) of St. Louis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jarrett Schreck, Lauren Schreck (Zach Schulte), Sydney Jo Reed, and Robbie Jo Reed II, and three step-grandchildren, Jorden Ramsey (Melanie), Megan Ramsey (Anthony Van Auken), and Madison Wendling. He is survived by four great-grandchildren, Lily Murphy, Lincoln Van Auken, Laurel Van Auken, and Brooklyn Ramsey, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Paul Schreck, Kenneth Schreck, Verlin Schreck, and John Schreck, a sister, Joan Logsdon (Bernard), and twins who died in infancy Francis and Mary. A graveside service was held 11:00 a.m., Saturday May 31 at the Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, MO. A celebration of life was held following the graveside service at the St. Francisville Community Center.
