Scott Grange Obituary
Scott Michael Grange unexpectedly passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois. Scott was born on July 14, 1969 in Redlands, California to Nancy and Kurt Grange. When he was 2 they moved to Nevada where he spent most of his life between Carson City and Reno.
Scott was a 1988 graduate of Carson High School, where he was known for excelling in academics and extra-curricular activities including soccer, wrestling, and skiing. He spent the summers camping with family and traveling with his parents and other students to Europe on educational trips. Scott attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he continued to succeed in school and outside life. He was a ski instructor, TKE fraternity member, and houseboy for a sorority, where he met his first wife, Jennifer. Scott graduated with two Bachelors degrees, one in history and the second in secondary education. He then went on to work two jobs full time while earning his Masters degree in Educational Administration.
He served as a teacher and principal in Washoe County School District for the next 28 years while raising his three children, Miranda, Adam, and Logan. Scott's passion for sports and traveling never stopped when he became a father. He took his family on camping trips every summer, sprinkling in education whenever he could, and coached each of them in every sport imaginable. Before retiring from the school district, he restarted his parents' "Washoe Academy Abroad" educational European travel company where he toured countries including France, Germany, and Switzerland, with high school students from around the local districts. He took pride in teaching the rich history Europe has to offer to his many students and children.
By then, Scott had met his fiancée, Noela, and they began to dream of a slow life in a small Midwest town where they could cultivate a warm home for future grandchildren and Scott could finally write the many novels he'd been forming in his head his entire life. In 2024 he published his first novel, Flying Lessons, a story of surviving WWII and finding oneself. He was so proud of his work that he immediately began working on his second novel, Touch, which he was able to finish and will be published by his children in the future. Scott and Noela thoroughly enjoyed their life in Macomb, Illinois, where they gardened, cooked, and cared for their beloved pets (and even the wildlife). Scott touched many people throughout his life with his compassionate, endearing, and intelligent nature. He was a loyal and loving partner, father, son, and friend. He was taken from this world far too soon and will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Scott are his father, Kurt, sister, Krista, and three children, Miranda, Adam, and Logan, as well as his fiancée, Noela, and her children and grandchild, Will, Seth, Hannah, and Wrenley.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McDonough County Humane Society.
