Victor L. Cross

Victor L. Cross, 94, of Wever, IA, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at his home. He was born on June 14, 1931 in Fort Madison, IA to Carl & Hildreth Andrews Cross. He married Dorothy Mansheim on April 18, 1949 and they later divorced. He then married Esther Pilkinton on September 30, 1977. He worked for 42 years at the Santa Fe Railroad and also owned and operated the Hobby House in Fort Madison from 1955 to 1970. He was a member of the Antique Truck Club and the Hamilton Old Threshers. He enjoyed working on his 1958 Mack Truck Model B and taking it to truck shows and driving it in parades. He refinished three railroad motor cars and maintained a large model railroad in his home and enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia. His greatest love was his large family. Vic is survived by: his wife: Esther Cross of Wever, IA; 9-children: William Cross of Fort Madison, IA, Julia (Bill) Patterson of West Burlington, IA, Cheryl (Dennis) Moreland of Fort Worth, TX, Steven (Susan) Cross of Fort Madison, IA, Carol Day of Fort Madison, IA, Sue (Gil) Potter of Fort Madison, IA, Abby Ramirez of Burlington, IA, Chuck Pilkinton of Wabasha, MN & Cecil (Sue) Dickson of Chillicothe, IL; 22-grandchildren; 32-great grandchildren & 1-great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 2-sons: Roger & John Cross, 3-sons in law: Richard Moreland, Dennis Day & David Tiemeier, 1-daughter in law: Loly Cross, 2-brothers: Raymond & Glen Cross & 1-sister: Beverly Schmidt. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A private family graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery with Pastor Bud Pilkinton officiating. A memorial has been established for North Lee County Historical Society's window replacement fund.
