William Hackney Obituary

William "Bill" Joseph Hackney, 78 of Kahoka passed away at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. He was born on January 22, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas. At the age of two, he was adopted by Wilmer and Bernice Lucille Smith Hackney. On June 21, 1994 he was united in marriage to Edna Louise Protsman Jones in Cottonwood, Arizona where they lived for eleven years. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2018. While living in Arizona Bill worked at Wendy's washing dishes and in housekeeping at a local nursing home. They later moved to Kahoka where they called home. While in Kahoka, Bill worked for Industrial Opportunities for several years before he retired. Bill and Edna were often seen driving around town together, making the most of each day and cherishing their time together. Following Edna's passing, Bill moved into the Clark County Nursing Home in June 2019, where he embraced the community and participated in many of the activities offered. The staff and residents became like family to him. Bill was a member of Freedom in Christ and had a strong faith. You would never see Bill without his Bible. He is survived by three sisters, Linda Sue, Vickie Ann and Barbara Jean, a step-daughter, Vernie Jones (Phillip) and a step-son, Bobby Jones and two step-grandchildren, Douglas Jones and Linda Jones. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26 at the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka with Pastor Ray Gilbert officiating. Memorials may be made to the Clark County Nursing Home. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of William "Bill", please visit our Tree Store.
