Antonios Dimakis Obituary
HAVERHILL - Antonios 'Tony' Konstantinos Dimakis was born on February 5, 1933 to Katerina and Konstantinos Dimakis in Chios, Greece. Antonios lived a long, eventful, and hard- yet successful life. When he was only 5 years old, he and his family split in half during World War II, leaving Tony to spend the next 4 years as a refugee in Cyprus while they waited out the war. After returning home to Chios, miraculously, the other half of his family was alive and they finally reunited. After the war, he worked with his father to provide for his family as a farmer and a tree pruner. At 16, Tony became the assistant cook on a ship for the Greek Merchant Marines- a job he worked tirelessly and passionately for 20 years. He also served 2 years in the Greek Navy. He was a dedicated, hardworking man who always provided for his family and loved ones. In between his time in the merchant marines, Antonios worked as a personal chef to the Admiral of the Greek Navy in Athens, where he ultimately met and fell in love with the woman who would become his wife and soulmate, Evdokia Georgine Dimakis. They had 3 boys together, and eventually, Tony moved their family to the United States. Tony bought Mark's Deli in Haverhill, Ma. in 1975, where it still remains in the family today. Mark's Deli became a huge part of the Greek and Haverhill community overall, as Tony was so personable and formed close relationships with everyone who walked through its doors. He and his wife enjoyed giving back to the community they had become a part of after immigrating to the United States. They did so by helping with many occasions at the St. Peter and St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church over the years.
Tony's love for cooking never faded, as food is an important part of the Greek culture- he passed this sentiment down to all of his children. He brought a little piece of Chios with him in his cooking. And he never forgot to let his family know he loved them.
Antonios is predeceased by his wife, Evdokia Dimakis of Haverhill, MA, his son, Konstantinos Dimakis, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dimakis of Haverhill, MA. He leaves behind his son, Nikolaos Dimakis and daughter in-law Maria Dimakis of Taunton, MA, his son Stavros Dimakis of Haverhill, MA, and six grandchildren: Antonios K. Dimakis, Nathan Dimakis, Antonios N. Dimakis, Stavros J. Dimakis, Manoli Dimakis, and Evthokia Dimakis, all of whom he treasured and loved dearly. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tony passed peacefully on August 22, 2024, at Hannah Duston Nursing Home surrounded by all of his loved ones.
The Dimakis family thanks, from the bottom of their hearts, the nurses, physical therapists, and staffs at Whittier Rehab and Hannah Duston, in addition to the Hospice Care Team, who showed their compassion and worked their hardest to help Tony in his times of need.
