Arthur Costa Obituary
Plaistow, NH: Arthur J. Costa, 71, a resident of Plaistow since 2018 and a former resident of Rhode Island, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 5, 2025, following a six-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Providence, R.I. on March 28, 1954, and raised in Warwick, he was the son of the late Arthur and Anna (Pesce) Costa. Arthur attended local schools and graduated from high school in Warwick. He was first employed as a toolmaker at Brown and Sharp in North Kingstown, and later worked for twenty-nine years for the US Postal Service in Westerly, R.I.
In 1980, Arthur married the love of his life, Susan M. Evangelos, and together they built a home in Coventry, R.I., where they resided for forty years before moving to Plaistow seven years ago. A gentle and loving soul, Arthur was known to his family as the "kid and dog whisperer". If either were nearby, they would be automatically drawn to him, due to his sense of safety and kindness. He was also quite talented when tackling electrical, plumbing carpentry and construction issues.
An enthusiastic traveler, Arthur and his wife visited many wonderful places including, Egypt, Europe, Tahiti, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies and many other places across the globe. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. Known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, he delighted them in playing their favorite games of Hide and Seek, Monster, or Pirate Ship. In his later years when cancer began to spread throughout his body, his family, the light of his life, gave him the strength to fight each day as best he could.
Arthur will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife of forty-five years, Susan M. (Evangelos) Costa, his daughter, Stephanie M. (Costa) Quigley, his grandchildren, Nola M. Quigley and Grant C. Quigley, his two brothers, Robert Costa, of Coventry, R.I. and Richard Costa, of Warwick, R.I, his sister, Shirley Padien of Warwick, as well as extended family members and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration to be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 12 to 1:15 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH.
