Donald P. Lewis D.D.S.

1933 - 2024

Donald P. Lewis, D.D.S., 90, of Atkinson and formerly of Haverhill, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, one day shy of his 91st birthday, at High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Bradford on November 12, 1933, son of the late Malcolm Knight Lewis and Mary Dargie (Fyfe) Lewis.
Dr. Lewis was educated in the Haverhill School System and graduated from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1951. He received his undergraduate degree from Norwich University in 1955 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1958. Upon graduation, Donald entered the United States Naval Dental Corps with the rank of Lieutenant and served his country in Okinawa. He then returned home to Haverhill where he practiced dentistry for more than 60 years, first on Merrimack Street and later opening Haverhill Dental Associates, Inc. on Main Street. The practice is carried on today by his son, D. Palmer Lewis, Jr. D.M.D.
Donald was an avid golfer and a proud member of Haverhill Country Club since 1963. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, was a longtime member and past president of the Haverhill Rotary Club, and a former Haverhill City Councilor.
Donald is predeceased by his three siblings, Marlynn P. Lewis, Priscilla (Lewis) Johnson, and Wallace M. Lewis.
Dr. Lewis is survived by his children, D. Palmer Lewis, Jr., D.M.D. and his spouse Janet, of Haverhill; Alison L. Opolski and her spouse Joseph, of New Durham, N.H.; Cabot J. Lewis and his spouse Kristin, of Andover; and Jonathan F. Lewis and his spouse Matthew Boethin, of New York City. Donald is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephanie Opolski, Kathryn Opolski, Emily Opolski, Benjamin Lewis, William Lewis, Caroline Lewis and Cabot Lewis, Jr., and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours on Thursday, November 14, from 4-6 PM at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15 at 11 AM, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.
