Stephen M. "Cowboy Steve" Hamel

Stephen M. Hamel, 67, husband of Deborah Gleason Hamel, of Haverhill passed away on March 28, 2026 at Lawrence General Hospital.

Stephen was born in Haverhill on March 6, 1959. He was the son of Philip and Shirley (Case) Hamel and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1977. He then went on to study at Northern Essex Community College and worked for many years as an IT Specialist for Bae Systems. He enjoyed working at the AOH on Friday nights in Peabody as a karaoke DJ, and was known as Cowboy Steve. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend.

Stephen is survived by his wife Deborah Gleason Hamel, his son Mark R. Hamel and his wife Emma, his step-daughter Sarah Cardello and her husband Jeff and their daughter, his first grandchild, Leena Charlotte Cardello, and Billy Poirier, all of Haverhill. He also leaves behind his in laws Bob and Mary Renaud, brother in laws Michael and Melanie Renaud, David and Kathy Renaud, and Brian and Tracey Renaud; sister in law Doreen and Mike DeChane; and his sisters Susan Riley and her partner Randy Bennett, and Donna McIntosh and her husband Glenn, all of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth Hamel, and his best friends Wade Van Coppenolle, and Dave Messina.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Monday, April 6 th from 4PM until 7PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
