John Danese Obituary

Haverhill – John A. Danese Jr., 91, died Monday afternoon in Florida following a heart attack the previous week. He spent several days in the ICU before entering hospice care, where he died peacefully. Born March 16, 1934, in Haverhill, MA, to Rose and John Danese Sr., John was raised just one block from the home on Arch Avenue where he would live most of his life. He graduated from Haverhill Trade School as an electrician in 1952 and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Greenland. After his military service, John began his career with Western Electric, continuing through its various successor companies, and retired in 1993 at the age of 59. A lifelong Boston sports enthusiast, John was especially passionate about hockey, baseball, and football. In the 1970s, he shared a season ticket to the Boston Bruins, attending countless games at the old Boston Garden. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and, later in life, became a devoted follower of the New England Patriots. John also enjoyed horse racing, following the sport closely and savoring the excitement of the track. In retirement, John and his wife Doris ("Dot")-together for 63 years-moved to Florida, where they enjoyed their remaining years. They traveled locally, were especially fond of dining out and discovering new restaurants, and made the most of their time together. John also loved doing crossword puzzles, a daily habit that kept his mind sharp. John was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Eileen. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Doris, his son, John, as well as many cousins, in-laws, and friends who will miss him dearly. "The measure of a man is in the lives he loved and the memories he leaves."
