June Spurk Obituary

June Frances Spurk, 90, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at High Pointe House, surrounded by love. Born in Haverhill on May 29, 1935, to Thomas and Bernice (Flynn) Broderick, June built a life defined by her intelligence, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and community. June was predeceased by her beloved husband of 27 years, John H. Spurk, and her sister, Barbara Cochrane. She is survived by her children, John T. Spurk and Heidi L. Bachry, who were the center of her heart, and by her grandchildren, Johnathon Spurk, Blake Bachry, Madeline Bachry, and Mason Bachry, who brought her endless joy. A lifelong learner, June graduated from Merrimack College in 1956 and went on to earn a master's degree in History from Boston University. She shared her love of knowledge as a teacher at Merrimack College, Northern Essex Community College, and as a dedicated academic tutor for Haverhill students. June's commitment to her community was remarkable. She gave her time and talents to many organizations, serving as a poll worker, a member of the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses Association, president of the Greater Haverhill YWCA, and a special minister at Sacred Hearts Parish. She also taught CCD classes and served on the parish school board, always finding ways to give back to others. Beyond her service, June was a woman of passions. An avid reader and an accomplished bridge player, she not only competed-achieving the title of Ruby Life Master with the ACBL-but also delighted in teaching the game to both newcomers and seniors. She loved traveling with friends and family, creating lasting memories across Europe and the Caribbean. Together with her husband, she warmly opened her home to foreign exchange students from France, Greece, and Germany, enriching the lives of all who knew her. Those who loved June will remember her brilliance, her warm and attentive care, her laughter, and her boundless generosity. She gave freely of herself, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation on Friday, October 3, from 10:45–11:45 a.m. at the H. L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 210 South Main Street, Bradford. Her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main Street, Bradford. Interment will take place afterward at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Haverhill. Sorry to learn of June's passing. She was a true friend to the hundreds of women who passed through the doors of the Haverhill YWCA with her kind and giving nature back in the 70's and 80's. Her leadership as President of the Board helped to create programming and community events that carried on for years.
