Maureen Wimmer Obituary
HAVERHILL – Maureen Frances Wimmer, 89, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family in Salisbury on October 20, 2025.
Maureen was born on July 8, 1936 in Haverhill. She was the daughter of Robert B. and Margaret (Willey) Croston and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1954. She then went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1956. After many years caring for her family and home, Maureen worked as a receptionist/administrative assistant at Cargocaire Engineering and ABF Freight Systems until her retirement in 1998. At that time she began gardening, traveled often to California and opened a small vintage second-hand shop, WildWood, in Merrimac, MA. It was the proprietorship of this store, along with her role as the welcoming face of Rhythm Cafe, her daughters' restaurant in Merrimac that engrained her into this small community in which she became dearly loved.
A lifelong artist, Maureen found her passion in mixed media collage, but continued to work in various mediums including driftwood and stone, creating the much loved and sought after "Plum Island Owls". She was a member of the Merrimac Garden Club, a prolific and published poet, a lover of books and a constant inspiration to her children, grandchildren and the innumerable people whose lives she touched.
Maureen is survived by her son Skip Wimmer and his wife Jamie of Poway, CA, daughters Sharon Wimmer and her partner Ted Souliotis of Haverhill, Catherine "Cat" Chouinard of Plaistow, NH, Leslie Fowler and her husband David of Salisbury, and Beth Wimmer and her partner Mike Bischof of Buix, Switzerland. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jen Wimmer, Kristal Brown, Aja Wimmer, Amanda Chouinard, Adam Chouinard, Dalton Wimmer, and Reese Fowler; and great grandchildren: Malakai, Elijah, Averie, Zoe, and Kacie. Maureen was predeceased by her son Andrew Wimmer, brother Robert "Bucky" Croston and sister Mary Ann Brown.
